Whether you are an occasional visitor to Soulard Market, which is the oldest produce market west of the Mississippi River or whether you are one of the masses that throng the Soulard area during Mardi Gras, I am certain that you are aware that the Soulard neighborhood offers much more.
Most visitors to the neighborhood are very familiar with the many fine restaurants and bars that are catering to the specific needs of their different clientele. The availability of these establishments are one of the reason that many of the inhabitants of all income brackets have chosen to live in this neighborhood.
Another key factor in the growth of this area is its proximity to Downtown as well as one of area's major employers: Anheuser-Busch. Plus another key factor is that all of the major highways - 40, 44, 70, and 55 - are just minutes away from the neighborhood. Of course, if you are employed in the Illinois area, you could not be much closer.
The neighborhood was originally the home of workers. That is the reason that many of the homes tend to be smaller in scale and not the grandeur that exists in their neighborhood to the west - Lafayette Square. However, please don't assume that there aren't homes of larger scale. They certainly do exist. In addition, the rehabbing that is going on in Soulard is certainly over whelming.
